IT couldn’t come at a perfect time for Caloocan to snap its five-game losing skid.
On a night when Mayor Oscar Malapitan was celebrating his birthday, the Longrich-backed Supremos rewarded their staunchest supporter with a 91-81 triumph over the Pasig Pirates-Gameville in the MPBL Datu Cup at the Caloocan Sports Complex Wednesday night.
Six players finished in double figures for the Supremos led by mainstay Mar Villahermosa, who finished with 18 points, six rebounds and three assists.
Ex-pro Jopher Custodio and Cedric Labing-isa added 13 points apiece while Joseph Nalos contributed 12. New prized recruits JR Cawaling and Paul Sanga chipped in 11 apiece as the Supremos displayed balance production before pulling off a come from behind victory.
It was the first win in four months for the Supremos, who just won their second career win in the fastest growing regional amateur basketball league, but posted their first home win of their franchise.
“Hindi kami puwedeng matalo ngayon kasi nakakahiya kay Mayor (Malapitan). It’s a good thing we were able to win,” said head coach John Kallos.
But the win didn’t come easy though for the Supremos, who had to climb back from 14 points down early, 42-56, in the early part of the third period.
Ex-PBA player Bern Franco finished with a double-double production for the Pirates with 15 points and 12 boards.
