Amid the trade rumor linking flamboyant forward Calvin Abueva, Alaska coach Alex Compton said they are willing to part ways with the “Beast” if they will get a talent in the mold of LeBron James or Kevin Durant.
“If somebody is offering Lebron and KD that are half-Filipino, then maybe we will talk. But it’s just not (true),” Compton said, in response to trade rumors surrounding Abueva, shortly after Alaska’s 120-117 loss to Gilas on Saturday.
The outspoken American mentor was actually surprised on the rumors as he bared even the Alaska management has no plans of pulling the trigger to let Abueva walk away.
“It’s news to me. I haven’t heard anything, I haven’t heard from Fred, from Calvin, from me, or any other teams,” added Compton, who isn’t updated with his social media accounts.
The American mentor believes die-hard supporters of other PBA teams just started circulating the rumors to have fun.
“PBA fans are excited, fans love the game, I think they love to have Calvin so if you’re a fan and you can start that rumor. People like to have fun in different ways,” he added.
The 29-year old Abueva, Alaska’s 2nd overall pick in 2012, remains an attractive asset to other teams, given his versatility and do-it-all mentality.
But Compton just can’t imagine Alaska without “The Beast” as he completely shot down any idea of trading away Abueva.
“It’s not true and I’m not ready. Just rumors.”
