Global Cebu stay alive with dramatic win over Yangon

Global Cebu reignited their AFC Cup campaign on Tuesday as they claimed a thrilling 2-1 victory over Yangon United at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.

Following a goalless first half in the Group G tie, the hosts broke the deadlock in the 79th minute when Darryl Roberts climbed high to meet Dominic Del Rosario’s freekick at the back post and send a header past Sann Sat Naing.

But, in the 90th minute, it looked as though Yangon had earned a share of the spoils when substitute Kyi Lin burst past two defenders before floating a cross to Maung Maung Lwin, who stooped low to nod the ball into the back of the net.

Remarkably though, Global were then awarded a penalty in the fourth minute of injury-time when Rufino Sanchez was illegally barged over inside the box by Kekere Moukailou, and the Spaniard kept his cool to dispatch his penalty past Sat Naing for the winner.
