In time for the hosting of the Philippines of the 2019 edition of the Southeast Asian Games, the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) announced today that volleyball games for the biennial meet will be held in Metro Manila.
POC’s Planning and Coordination Office executive director Ramon Suzara said during the first day of the SEA Games Federation Council meeting that volleyball events will be played at the SMART Araneta Coliseum.
As of now, the Philippines has yet to form a national team that will see action in this very competitive meet.
The last time the Philippines won a medal was in 2005 where it was held in the home soil in Bacolod City. The core of Michelle Carolino, Tina Salak, Mary Jean Balse, Monica Aleta, Cherry Rose Macatangay, among others composed the team.
It was in 1993, meanwhile, when the tricolors last bagged the gold medal. Since then, the competition has been lorded by neighbor Thailand.
Other sports that Metro Manila Manila will cater for the 2019 SEA Games edition are basketball, boxing, and gymnastics. Basketball games is set to happen at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The POC also released an initial list of included sports to be played during the meet, totaling to 30 sporting events.

SEA Games 2019 will run from November 30 to December 10, 2019, with three hubs hosting the games, namely Clark which is the main hub, Subic, and Metro Manila.
