PVL: Bright shines on a rainy day to power BanKo past Tacloban to begin semis hunt

American import Kia Bright exploded for 19 points as the BanKo-Perlas Spikers scraped past Tacloban Fighting Warays, 25-22, 25-20, 25-18, in the opener of the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Reinforced Conference quarterfinals, Saturday afternoon at the Flying V Centre in San Juan.

The former US NCAA player paced BanKo not only in the offense but also played splendidly in the defense as she tallied team-high 16 excellent digs and eight receptions.

Thai import Jutarat Montripila dropped 13 points while the local trifecta of Nicole Tiamzon, Joy Dacoron and Amy Ahomiro were accounted for 25 markers combined in the match.

Former UAAP Best Setter Jem Ferrer displayed another masterful orchestration with 44 excellent sets.

Tacloban’s Hyapha Amphorn had an underwhelming outing with only 12 markers while Jovie Prado added nine points.

Fresh from back-to-back victories, the Perlas Spikers avenged their their four set loss at the hands of the Fighting Warays in the preliminaries to open their bid for a semifinals berth on a high note.

It was a close battle in the first two sets but the Bong Dela-Cruz mentored squad pulled away midway the third frame to seal the match in a sweep.
