Fr. Martin’s Cup: FEU Tamaraws stun Diliman College

Raptors return to Canada after days of celebrating NBA title

The FEU Tamaraws pulled off another rousing comeback win yet again, this against Diliman College, 79-77 in the on-going 25th Fr. Martin’s Cup Summer League presented by Resorts World Manila, San Bedans 62-66, and Cocolife Sunday at the San Beda Gymnasium in Mendiola, Manila.

The Blue Dragons went guns ablaze in the first period by firing off 25 points and their stifling defense held FEU to only 10 points.

But after trailing for three quarters, the Tamaraws turned the tables around in the penultimate quarter by outscoring the Blue Dragons 27-14 and they held on just enough en route to the victory.

It was the second victory for the Tamaraws, who leveled their record to 2-2 in Group B of the seniors division.

Jack Gloria paced the Morayta-based squad with 21 points while Rendell Senining scored 18 points with eight of them coming in the final frame.

Robbie Darang and Ishmael Pacheco scored 17 apiece in the losing effort for Diliman, which dropped to 3-2.

St. Patrick High School also won against Diliman Prepatory School, 88-75, to get their second straight victory in the Juniors A Division.

After holding on to a slim lead in the first half, 35-32, St. Patrick poured in 28 points in the third canto to pull away against the tough Diliman side for good.

Once again, it was the lethal duo of Aaron Lumapas and Geremie Sanchez who towed St. Patrick as they scored 32 and 29 points respectively.

In the second juniors division tiff, it was the San Beda Red Cubs prevailing over the Arellano University Braves, 74-68 in Group B.

With the game being tight all throughout up until the fourth period, San Beda made key baskets and defensive stops down the stretch to ice the game.

The Red Cubs are now in solo second with a 3-1 record, just trailing the undefeated Baby Falcons.

Josiah Alcantara led the Mendiola-based club with 18 points while Yukien Andrada added 13 markers. JC Recto topscored for Arellano with 12.
