Jimmy Alapag thanks Vlade Divac for chance to serve as deputy for Sacramento Kings

Toronto Raptors superstar Kawhi Leonard nails nine 3’s in a row!

Jimmy Alapag might just be one of most accomplished Filipino basketball players of all time, but he certainly knows that he still has a lot to learn in terms of coaching.

The 41-year-old quickly pounced on an opportunity of a lifetime to serve as an assistant coach for the Sacramento Kings in 2019 NBA Summer League in Las Vegas, Nevada, as first reported by ESPN5’s Carlo Pamintuan.

“As a coach, it’s important to continue to grow and learn. So thankful to Vlade Divac and the Sacramento Kings organization for the opportunity to join their Summer League staff in Vegas this year. Looking forward to the entire experience! Always an honor to represent 🇵🇭 basketball!!!,“ Alapag wrote on Instagram.

Divac, of course, played 16 seasons in the NBA before calling it a career in 2005. The beloved Serbian center eventually returned to the Sacramento Kings as vice president of basketball operations and general manager in 2015.

Both staples in their respective national teams during their playing days, Alapag and Divac established a relationship as members of the FIBA Players’ Commission, where the latter serves as Chairman.

Alapag is currently the head coach of San Miguel Alab Pilipinas in the ASEAN Basketball League and also an assistant coach for the San Miguel Beermen in the PBA.
