Hoops Army MNL opened their first-ever tournament last August 18 at King’s Landing in Cainta, Rizal.
Opening day for Hoops Army MNL Corporal Division season 1 provided excitement as teams immediately showed what they are made of. In the first game, Narcos scored a convincing 84-60 win over En Route. Rjay Alvaran was named best player of the game with 17 points and 11 rebounds.
During the second game, Foggoat established an early lead in the 1st half, and turned their match into a blowout by the end of the 3rd quarter. Foggoat went out victorious with a 124-80 win over Hoopstown. Ralf Dimaala was the game’s best player with 25 points and four assists.
In the final game of the day, Pines Royale built a comfortable lead over three quarters. While Hoops I Did It Again tried to make a comeback from 21 points down in the 4th quarter, Pines Royale was still able to hold on with a 76-64 victory. Kenneth Pablo was named player of the game finishing with 19 points, 14 rebounds, four assists, and four steals.
Kenneth Pablo won player of the week honors for week 1 with his stellar all-around performance in Pines Royale’s game against Hoops I Did It Again.
Meanwhile, Metro East Hoops Gold Division Volume 3 continued, with all six participating teams providing high-quality hoops action.
In what many will consider as the game of the season so far, Bratpack won against Congen in overtime, 133-132. Warren Dy had a game to remember with 22 points and 13 rebounds under his name. Bratpack survived a 32-16 3rd quarter from Congen and outlasted them during a tight overtime session.
The second game between Arnel & Cel Meat Shop and Zone XII All-Stars was a close one. Arnel & Cel had their breakthrough, gutting out an upset 72-71 victory against Zone XII. Dela Cruz won best player of the game honors with 21 points, seven rebounds, and five assists.
The third game between Aga.ph and Tanduay Hoyas was also exciting. Aga.ph was able to recover from an early 27-16 deficit, using their defense to earn a masterful 76-65 victory over Tanduay Hoyas. Chris Baarde was named player of the week for Week 3, leading all scorers with 38 big points.
Over at Metropolitan Basketball League Division 3, spectators were treated with a triple-header last August 17 at the Playdium Arena.
Plunge kept its undefeated record and secure a semifinal slot with a come-from-behind victory against Black Mamba, 64-56. Quejada was named best player of the game with 19 points and 12 rebounds.
Southern Cross also stayed undefeated, surviving a spirited 2nd half comeback by BNT Synergy and Jann Gutierrez’s 46 points and 15 rebounds, to win 103-95. Jason Santos was best player of the game for Southern Cross with his 26 points and 12 rebounds.
Pasig Smashers avoided the upset axe as well, securing a hard-earned 76-71 win over Petron Blazers. Tulio was best player of the game, compiling 31 points, seven rebounds, and five assists for Pasig Smashers.
Tulio was also named player of the week for the second straight week, thanks to his huge performance against Petron.
