The San Miguel Beermen have meted out indefinite suspensions to Arwind Santos, Kelly Nabong, and Ronald Tubid days after their involvement in a scuffle during the team’s practice.
“Basketball is a physical game where emotions can run high, but we believe that PBA players have to be held to a higher standard of professionalism and sportsmanship at all times. While the conflict has been resolved, and the incident occurred away from the public eye, the San Miguel organization does not tolerate unsportsmanlike behavior,” said in a statement released by the team.
Spin.ph reported that a fight broke out when Dez Wells retaliated towards Arwind Santos after being given a hard pick. Tubid came out to Santos’ defense, while Nabong did the same for Wells.
“It is for this reason that we’ve come to this decision, even if it impacts our bid for a second franchise grand slam. Our commitment now, moving forward, is that we will work doubly hard and play our very best, for our fans and for the organization,” the statement concluded.
These three players are expected to serve their suspension starting from their next game against the TNT KaTropa tomorrow. San Miguel will have John Holland as their reinforcement for the third game in a row.
San Miguel are currently 6-4 in the win-loss column and they are looking to clinch a twice-to-beat advantage for the upcoming 2019 PBA Governors’ Cup quarterfinals.
