Two-time PBA MVP June Mar Fajardo had to leave the San Miguel-Rain or Shine game prematurely after hurting his right knee during the first half Friday night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The 6-foot-10 Fajardo said he was back-pedaling in the 2nd quarter when he accidentally stepped on the foot of San Miguel import Tyler Wilkerson.

“Natapakan ko si Tyler tapos na-off balance ako, then bumagsak na lang ako,” Fajardo told sports scribes inside the SMB dugout.

The soft-spoken San Miguel big man had his right knee iced during halftime as precaution.

“Magpapa-MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) na lang ako para sigurado,” added Fajardo, who described his injury as bone bruise.

The 26-year-old San Miguel center left the Big Dome during the 2nd half and went straight to St. Luke’s Medical Center-Global City to undergo MRI scan on his right knee.

Incidentally, Fajardo injured his left knee against the same Rain or Shine side during Game 6 of their PBA Philippine Cup semifinals on January 15.

The former University of Cebu giant managed to return midway in the Finals, providing the inspiration for the Beermen who went on to complete a historic 4-3 win against the Alaska Aces to capture their 2nd straight all-Filipino crown. – By Richard Dy
