Long-range bomber Jeff Chan was sporting a swollen left cheek, but that didn’t prevent him from leading Rain or Shine to a 103-98 victory against Manny Pacquiao’s Mahindra side Wednesday night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
No, Chan didn’t get it from a Pacquiao power punch.
Instead, the left-handed Rain or Shine forward sustained the swollen left eye after receiving an accidental elbow from teammate and Elasto Painters import Mo Charlo in the last quarter.
“Eto, may bago na naman, pero malayo naman sa atay,” Chan said jokingly, while pointing to his left cheek.
“Nagre-rebound si Mo, eh saktong nabagsakan ako.”
The former Far Eastern University deadshot temporarily went back to the bench to have his left cheek iced, before returning to score 14 of his team-high 18 points in the last quarter.
“Kailangan aggressive lang,” he said. “Eh nung naka-shoot na ako, sabi ko, okay, kailangan na saka hinahanap din naman ako ng mga bigs eh.”
Chan said every win is important at this point, which is why he just can’t allow the Elasto Painters let the game slip away from them.
“Kailangan namin manalo eh. Lumalamang na sila (Enforcers), then nagkaka-momentum na sila,” he said.
“Nagmi-miss na kami nung time na yun tapos si coach Yeng (Guiao) nawala pa,” added Chan.
