June Mar Fajardo springs back to action on Easter Sunday

June Mar Fajardo is eyeing to return from a 1-game absence on Easter Sunday when San Miguel Beer collides with sister team Star Hotshots at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The 6-foot-10 Fajardo missed Wednesday’s game due to a right knee injury he suffered in San Miguel’s loss to Rain or Shine recently.

The reigning 2-time league MVP said the swelling has yet to subside, thus preventing him from joining the team’s practice.

“Next week pa siguro ako lalaro kasi kailangan ko pa mag-strengthening, eh di ako puwede mag-diretso ensayo,” Fajardo said, moments after watching San Miguel demolish Alaska, 116-96 in the 1st meeting of the 2 Philippine Cup Finals protagonists on Wednesday.

The 2012 top PBA rookie pick said he’s glad to have dodged a serious injury on his knee.

“Wala naman major damage sa tuhod. Namaga lang siya, pero by next game makakalaro na siguro ako,” explained the soft-spoken SMB big man.

Fajardo said he’s happy to see the Beermen come out firing from the get-go, enabling them to build a big lead, which try never relinquished against the Aces.

“Ang lakas ng team saka ang lakas din ng import namin,” he said.

“Mahirapan talaga yung magbabantay sa kanya (Tyler Wilkerson) kasi tumitira siya sa labas saka may loob din siya,” added the Cebuano big man.

San Miguel peppered Alaska with 17 three-pointers, just 2 shy of its conference record in the Beermen’s 120-109 win over GlobalPort last month.

The Beermen are currently at 3rd spot in the standings with their 4-2 record, behind the Aces and the Meralco Bolts, who are tied with 5-2 card. – By Richard Dy
