PBA’s 2-time MVP June Mar Fajardo will spend his well-deserved break in his hometown Pinamungajan in Cebu to mend his broken heart and recover from his knee injury following a disastrous end to their Commissioner’s Cup campaign.
Fajardo is expected to be back when Gilas resumes its preparation for the FIBA Olympic Qualifiers on May 18.
“Baka uuwi ako ng Cebu siguro for ilang days then balik dito for Gilas. Kailangan ko lang makita yung mama ko,” Fajardo shared his plans to reporters after a 124-99 beating they absorbed in Game 4 that ended their Grand Slam hopes.
Slowed down by a knee injury, Fajardo was far from his dominant form scoring only 12 points in their 25-point blowout loss to Rain or Shine in Game 4.
“Drain na drain na rin kami eh kasi three conferences straight kami eh,” said Fajardo. “Pero hindi excuse yun. Natalo lang talaga kami,” Fajardo explained.
“Gusto namin manalo pero ganun talaga, talo eh. Di mo naman maipapanalo lahat,” he added, as San Miguel won 4 of the last 5 PBA championships.
Bracing for another long stretch of basketball this coming 2 months, Fajardo is hoping they can bounce back and defend the Governors Cup when it commence right after the Olympic qualifier.
“Babawi kami. Mahaba yung preparation namin at makakapag-pahinga kami. Yung may injury, makakapag-pahinga. Hopefully, nasa taas ulit kami by next conference,” Fajardo said. – By Jason Mercene
