Calvin Abueva seemed to have been reinvigorated when he started to sport his new hairstyle in Game 4.
He may not be sure yet if his low-cut mohawk will continue to bring good fortune but one thing is certain: Abueva is locked in to deliver everything he has for Alaska to overhaul the 0-3 series deficit.
Falling early in a 0-3 hole, Alaska stayed alive after winning the last 2 games thanks to Abueva and his mohawk that mowed down Rain or Shine to extend the best-of-seven titular showdown.
“Di pa natin masasabi yan, pag nakuha natin (yung championship), siguro doon natin masasabi,” said Abueva, who is known for his colorful hairdos and animated antics on the hardcourt.
The 2016 Commissioner’s Cup Best Player of the Conference awardee is certain of one thing going to Game 6 though.
“100% talagang naka-focus talaga tayo lalo na dito, double-effort na yung ginagawa natin dito,” he said.
Wanting to bury any memory of their first 3 outings, ‘The Beast’ walked the talk in Game 5 as he took over down the stretch, nailing 2 clutch baskets to give Alaska the win.
“Ngayon talagang solid, focus talaga, hindi mo pwedeng pakawalan kahit isang possession man lang,” added Abueva.
Still 2 games away to totally flip the series and clinch the mid-season crown, Abueva said they will continue to work hard, one game at a time.
“Wag lumabas lalo yung kumpiyansa natin na alam natin na kaya natin,” said Abueva.
“Pinaghihirapan yung mga galawan sa loob, di pwedeng ibigay lang nang ganun kadali yung Finals kaya todo trabaho,” he added. – By Jason Mercene
