Barangay Ginebra fans may have seen the last of American import Othyus Jeffers in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
A reliable source told FOX Sports on Saturday that coach Tim Cone has ditched his original plan of bringing back the hardworking Jeffers in the season-ending conference.
The all-time PBA winning coach is in the U.S. to finalize details on Ginebra’s new import for the Governors Cup and he’s expected to make it official once he returns to Manila on June 1.
“Yung papalit na player, iyan yung na-scout ni coach sa (NBA) Summer League last year,” the source said.
Though undersized for the mid-season conference that allows each team to field in a 6-9 reinforcement, Jeffers still managed to average all-around numbers of 22.54 points, 15.69 rebounds, 4.92 assists and 1.54 steals. But the former NBA D-League MVP, who was officially measured at just 6-2 & 7-8, failed to help Ginebra get past the quarterfinals.
