San Miguel Beermen capped an epic comeback with a Marcio Lassiter cold-blooded trey against the NLEX Road Warriors, 94-93 Friday night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Trailing 88-93 with over a minute to go in the final canto, Beermen climbed out of the hole as main gunners Alex Cabagnot and Lassiter finally clicked from long range.
Cabagnot first drilled a long bomb in 27-second mark to inch within 91-93 and a Henry Walker missed jumper with still 7 seconds left paved the way for the Lassiter go-ahead basket.
The Road Warriors still got a chance to snatch back the game away but Jonas Villanueva was off from beyond the arc to seal SMB’s second straight victory.
Lassiter and Cabagnot’s first triples came at the best time. Cabagnot was 1-of-4 from downtown and went on to finish with 19 points while Lassiter inched to just 8 points.
Returning import AZ Reid racked up 23 markers and 11 rebounds while reigning MVP JuneMar Fajardo delivered a 16-point, 6-rebound outing.
NLEX, on the other hand, was led by Walker’s 33 points, followed up by Jonas Villanueva who had 14 points. – By John Bryan Ulanday
