The Tamaraws Show Part 2.
That could be an exciting storyline when former FEU teammates Terrence Romeo and RR Garcia cross paths anew to spice up the fun-filled but still competitive All-Star game on Sunday.
With Romeo bannering the North All-Stars starters, the GlobalPort explosive guard will mostly likely have his hands full as Garcia, a first-time All-Star, will also grace the annual classic as a reserve for the South squad.
“Yun talaga, magpapakita talaga yun kung ano yung talent niya kasi kasiyahan naman yun eh, enjoyment as a player na makasama sa ganung All-Star event tsaka para sa fans,” said Garcia of Romeo to FOX Sports.
Since the two gunslingers have become rivals after parting ways in the PBA, Garcia and Romeo had arguably their best duel a week ago when the Star Hotshots prevailed over GlobalPort in the overtime.
Playing his best game in Star uniform, the 6-foot combo guard exploded for a team-high 26 markers while playing hero in the decisive stretch of that game to outlast Romeo’s 27-point performance.
The Zamboanga native, for one, was quick to recognize that a déjà vu might be in the offing featuring him and his Cavite-born rival-friend on Sunday’s affair.
“Siyempre magkakabantayan kami ulit doon,” he continued. “Sa labas naman ng court, alam naman natin magkaibigan kami nun, pero sa loob lalaro lang muna.”
As for Romeo, expect him to vent GlobalPort’s disappointing start on the weekend activities –that might include a revenge game against Garcia.
Following their recent loss to Phoenix Fuel Masters, the Gilas mainstay declined to comment on an ugly 0-4 record of the Batang Pier as he looks forward to shake off negative thoughts in the All-Star festivities.
Aside from the main event, Romeo will try to shoot for his back-to-back Three Point Shootout title against tough challengers including veteran James Yap and sharpshooter Jeff Chan.
“Sobrang shooter ng mga kalaban ko,” he said. “Kailangan paghandaan ko, lalo na sila kuya James tsaka kuya Jeff, tsaka halos lahat shooter eh. – By Jason Mercene
