TNT sealed one of the top 2 spots in the playoffs after smothering defending champion San Miguel Beer, 105-85 in their PBA Governors Cup out-of-town game on Saturday in Batangas City.
The Katropa broke wide open what had been a tight first half, outscoring the Beermen, 33-19 to zoom ahead, 80-64 at the end of the third period.
The wards of coach Jong Uichico improved to a tournament-best 8-1, while San Miguel fell into a tie for third spot with Mahindra at 6-3. The Katropa are assured of one of the two twice-to-beat incenntives.
Barangay Ginebra holds the solo second spot with its 6-2 card.
Ranidel de Ocampo led TNT with 18, Jayson Castro added 16 and 13 assists, while Syrian gunner Michel Madanly added 15.
Rookie Troy Rosario chipped in 13 while import Mychal Ammons 11 in a balanced scoring attack for TNT.
