Ateneo got some sort of revenge following its come-from-behind win against De La Salle-Zobel, 64-57 on Saturday in their 79th UAAP junior’s basketball tournament at the San Juan Arena.
Just three days after the La Salle Green Archers captured their first UAAP men’s basketball championship at the expense of the Blue Eagles, Ateneo’s high school squad showed heart, turning a five-point disadvantage en route to completing the come-from-behind win against last year’s runner-up.
The Eaglets limited the Junior Archers to only 9 points in the final frame while pouring 21 points in the last 10 minutes to cap-off their first round with a 4-2 record and the solo fourth spot in the standings.
Meantime, powerhouse Adamson Baby Falcons made mincemeat of the University of the East to sweep the first round via their overpowering 130-47 victory.
Defending champs NU Bullpups on the other hand, disposed of UPIS, 95-61 to carry a 6-1 record before the long Holiday break.
Earlier, the FEU Baby Tams finished their first round campaign with a 5-2 record after taming UST, 87-76 behind Eric Jabel’s 16 points.
FEU drained eight triples to lead by as much as 17 en route to drubbing the Cubs.
