LUCENA CITY—Gilas Pilipinas lived up to its #PUSO! battle cry, relying on timely three-point baskets from PBA rookies Kevin Ferrer and Carl Cruz, along with TNT sophomore Troy Rosario to upstage the Luzon All Stars, 122-111 in the second leg of the PBA All Star festivities on Friday at the Quezon Convention Center here.
- Big run: Gilas completed its comeback from a 17-point, third-quarter deficit behind its 17-1 windup to snuff the life out of the Luzon All Stars, which was earlier tipped to blow the national squad out of the playing court due to their firepower.
- Balanced scoring: Jonathan Grey, Meralco’s rookie, led Gilas with 19 points on 8-of-11 field goal shooting, Matthew Wright and Mike Tolomia added 15 each, while Cruz and Rosario chipped in similar 12 markers.
- Two in a row: Wright, Phoenix’s rookie gunslinger, pocketed his second straight Cloudfone-sponsored PBA All Star MVP. The Fil-Canadian shared All-Star MVP with Rosario in the Cagayan de Oro leg on Wednesday.
