Alas says Abueva ankle injury ‘not serious’ but Alaska woes continue

Alaska’s woes doesn’t seem to end in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup.

The Aces lost energetic forward Calvin Abueva in the dying minutes of their hard-fought game against the NLEX Road Warriors on Wednesday after suffering a suspected ankle injury.

Abueva hurt his right foot during the 1:33 mark of the fourth quarter when Alaska looked to erase an 87-92 deficit.

His emergency exit, however, proved to be the final nail in the Aces’ coffin as the Road Warriors wouldn’t be denied of a morale-boosting 100-92 win in the Commissioner’s Cup.

Abueva finished with a near double-double of 12 points and 9 rebounds in just his 2nd game back since starring in Gilas’ SEABA title conquest last week. But he failed to finish the game for the Aces, who went reeling to their fifth straight setback and dropping them to 4-5.

The “Beast” was seen limping on his way to the exit of the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Assistant coach Louie Alas, though, downplayed the extent of Abueva’s injury.

“Wala yun, minor lang yun,” said Alas.

Alaska is in danger of missing the playoff bus as it still has powerhouse squds San Miguel and Star in its last two games.
