Maliksi cites strong chemistry as big reason for Star’s surge

After having a blast in his first Gilas stint in SEABA, sweet-shooting wingman Allein Maliksi couldn’t be more happier as his PBA mother team Star is also reaping success so far in the Commissioner’s Cup.

Loaned to the national team for the last three weeks, Maliksi, along with rookie guard Jio Jalalon missed two PBA games but Star hardly missed their services as the rest of the Hotshots managed to hold the fort well.

“Na-miss nga namin yung buong team pagbalik namin ni Jio. Medyo maganda na yung chemistry sa defense and offense, nag-uusap na lahat,” said Maliksi after the game. “Pagbalik naman sa Star, happy ulit.”

The former UST gunner has all the reasons to be in a good mood as Star zapped Meralco, 108-90, on Wednesday for their fourth straight win in a battle between the two top teams this conference.

The 6-4 Maliksi thinks bringing in a tested import in Ricardo Ratfliffe to replace high-flying Tony Mitchell was one of the reasons for their recent success.

“Si Ricardo kasi talagang solid player sa ilalim, si Tony solid player rin naman sa defense pero more on face the basket siya sa offense.  Si Ricardo may poste talaga,” pointed out Maliksi, who finished 11 points spiked by 3 triples.

“Yun ang difference pero feeling ko mas (okay) si Ricardo kasi di napapagod, grabe. Grabe yung import namin. Si Tony kasi pagdating ng dulo medyo kinakapos, baka kulang pa sa kondisyon,” he added.

Maliksi also believes Ratfliffe injected more harmony to the team as chemistry was not a problem, given the import’s previous stint with Star last season.

“Si Ricardo kasi kilala ko na rin, even sa Korea nagkakausap pa kami, nagkakachat pa kami, so di na problema yung chemistry sa import tapos yung team naman okay naman,” he said.
