Ateneo wins 12th straight, rides on 4th-quarter offensive to smother UST

Ateneo de Manila maintained its torrid run for the season, hammering the woeful University of Santo Tomas, 102-83 to stretch its perfect card at 12-0 in the UAAP men’s basketball on Saturday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

  • Dynamic duo: Thirdy Ravena registered a near triple-double of 20 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists, while Matt Nieto added 19 for Ateneo, which is now just 2 wins away from sweeping the elimination round.
  • Still winless: As in its past games, UST mamaged to keep the game close after entering the final period and just trailing by 5 points, 70-75.  But Ateneo revved up its offense in the final period by outscoring UST, 27-13 to turn a tight contest into a one-sided match. The Growling Tigers dropped their 13th straight match and are in danger of ending Season 80 without a single win under second-year coach Boy Sablan.
