Jhaymo Eguilos wants to continue championship ways thru Batangas City Athletics in MPBL

BATANGAS CITY — Winning back-to-back championships in the short lived Pilipinas Commercial Basketball League, Jhaymo Egjuilos has once again put himself in a good position of claiming yet another title, this time via the Batangas City Athletics-Tanduay.

On Saturday, the steady frontliner was a picture of concentration, helping his team in notching its second win to move within striking distance of capturing the inaugural MPBL-Anta Rajah Cup. He finished with 16 points on a near perfect shooting from the field (7-of-8), towing the Athletics to a 2-0 lead over the Muntinlupa Cagers-Angelis Resort in their bets-of-five finals series.

The 6-foot-5 center was part of the Jumbo Plastic Linoleum squad that won back-to-back championships in the PCBL for two consecutive conferences two years ago. This year, the former Far Eastern University stalwart has moved closer to winning another one and he could make that happen on Tuesday as Batangas City shoots for a sweep — and the crown.

For Eguilos, playing for Batangas City is his opportunity to shine.

“May kapalitan naman akong big man si Jason (Grimaldo), pero siya kasi more on defense, parang parehas rin kami, pero ang pagkakaiba lang namin, sa offense, siguro yung shooting ko,” added Eguilos.

Playing in the MPBL, particularly with his mother team, Batangas City Athletics, gave Eguilos stability and comfort that he intends on staying here instead of pursuing his PBA dreams. He became a free agent several years ago and was given an opportunity to play for Blackwater where he saw action for three games.

“Naging free agent ako, tapos kinuha ako ng Blackwater, pinalaro nila ako ng three games,” said Eguilos.
