Tug-of-war looms as Pasig, Quezon City jostle to get Mon Mabayo

WITH his spot already taken by Chad Alonzo at Valenzuela, Mon Mabayo is now negotiating his transfer to either Quezon City Capitals or the Pasig Pirates.

James Ong Machate confirmed to FOX Sports Philippines that they are still awaiting decision from the hardworking forward, who previously saw action for the Classic last season.

“We’re still awaiting his decision. He told us bukas (Saturday) daw siya magdi-decide,” wrote Machate in an online interview.

Mabayo is a 6-foot-3 frontliner and an energy guy for the Classic.

Earlier, Valenzuela coach Chris Gavina confirmed that Mabayo’s spot will be taken over by Alonzo, a PBA journeyman.

Quezon City, one of the teams which made the playoffs of the inaugural Anta Rajah Cup, is looking to add Mabayo in hope of shoring up its frontline.

But team owner and councilor Onyx Crisologo added that nothing is certain yet on the player’s possible transfer to the Capitals, although he’s attending the team’s practices.
