Laguna adds 2 more ex-PBA cagers to shore up MPBL squad

Denver’s Murray hails Jokic partnership after NBA play-off win

TWO ex-PBA players in Ryan Buenafe and Michael Mabulac had been added up by the Laguna Heroes in time for the coming MPBL season on June 12.

Alex Angeles, head coach of the Heroes, confirmed this development to FOX Sports Philippines in an exclusive interview.

“So far, nadagdagan kami ng mga ex-pros, una si Mabulac, nasa amin na, galing sa San Miguel,” Angeles said. “Tapos, pinaka-latest si Ryan Buenafe, alam naman natin na malaking tulong.”

The two will join the two other ex-pros –Denok Miranda and Jai Reyes.

A four-time UAAP champion with the Ateneo Blue Eagles, Buenafe last saw action in the PBA with the Meralco Bolts last year. He spent the last three years being either on the reserve list or the last man on the bench until he was not renewed this season.

Buenafe will be reunited with Reyes, a long-time teammate from Ateneo as the Heroes look forward to making their presence felt in the coming season which opens at the Araneta Coliseum.

Mabulac, a 6-foot-5 cager, has been on the reserve list of the Beermen the past few seasons. In the MPBL, he will get the opportunities he’s looking for to showcase his talent.

To complete the ex-pro cast, Laguna tapped Rex Leynes, who played in the Asean Basketball League.

Angeles said that since most of the players on board had started practicing with the team early, the team had developed good chemistry in time for the coming season. He expects Laguna to be better as the season begins.

“Sa haba ng preparation namin, yung  chemistry medyo andun na. Yung conditioning rin ng bawat isa, gumaganda na. I think sa darating na game namin by June 13, we’re ready na sa laban,” added Angeles.
