FROM Ankle Breakers to Crusaders.
Team Rizal has yet to play its first official game in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League, but management is already thinking of ditching its current moniker and carry a new one as the season progresses.
Team manager Vivian de Padua confirmed this in an exclusive interview with FOX Sports Philippines.
“We were bashed several times because yung moniker daw namin is walang kinalaman sa Rizal (province),” De Padua said in a telephone interview.
“So we’re planning to change it, sometime middle of the season or earlier. We’ve chosen Crusaders dahil yung lugar namin is known for crusades, mountaineering and other stuff. “
On Saturday, Team Rizal was officially launched and league commissioner Kenneth Duremdes was on hand to witness the simple proceedings.
Also in attendance joining Commissioner Duremdes and Ms De Padua were Santiago Francisco Jr., son of team owner, Xandrei Cruz, and the team headed by coach Braulio Lim, and assistant coach Henry Fernandez.
In his speech, Commissioner Duremdes said he sees a lot of potential players from Rizal.
Also in attendance was Vice Governor Jun Rey San Juan, who also delivered an inspiring message to the team members.
Nini Ynares,” said Vice Governor San Juan.
