SBC League Lite Division returns on a high note

Silangan Basketball Champions League (SBCL) commenced the second season of Lite Division with eastern’s finest ballclubs making huge collisions at the high class Kingslanding Basketball Gym in Filinvest East, Marikina City.

The defending champion, Big Ortigas Hardware, encountered a strong challenge from Embassy Whisky-Hoyas, but showed composure down the stretch to pull away in the fourth quarter and continue an undefeated record since the first season, 96-78.

Mel Mabigat led Big Ortigas with 20 markers, James Abugan finished with 13, Yaki Tarucan made 11, and Mark Lagrimas was a point and a rebound-short for a double-double performance.

In the opening match, Jericho Nicolas’ double-double performance of 15 points and 11 rebounds helped 365 Philippines outlast Kyrie, 65-60. Victor Doroteo contributed 10 markers.

East High Rizal rallied past East Side as Kyle Santiago and Ken Orpilla took over in the offensive end, 12 and 9 points respectively, to notch a 54-42 win.

GRMJ, last season’s runner-up, displayed a masterful performance to humiliate Papi after a 35-point victory, 81-46. Jerwin Cristi and Mac Salen got into double figures, 12 and 10 points respectively, whole Tobi Pangilinan controlled the board with 13 rebounds.

M&G Hogs Entrails posted a 115-101 win against Rizalenos, but only to get reversed by the league after learning that the team had an ex-varsity player of an NCAA team.

In the last game, Plan B showed unselfish basketball to stun East Youth, 58-47.
