GRMJ, Big Ortigas take top spots in respective brackets, Papi notches first win in SBCL Lite

GRMJ and Big Ortigas Hardware kept winning on a dominating fashion to sit on top of respective brackets, while Papi bounced back from debut loss in the second week of SBCL Lite Division eliminations held at Kingslanding Basketball Gym in Marikina City.

Not even the heavy frontcourt duo of Mico Mocon and Charles Vicencio can match against the balanced attacking from the paint and the three-point territory of GRMJ, especially Mac Salen who buried flurry of treys and finished with 24 points to lead in the team’s 20-point rout, 97-77.

Jayvee Caparas made a double-double performance of 13 points and 10 rebounds, while Ivanne Fernandez and Warren Dy contributed 14 markers each.

In the second match, Big Ortigas Hardware squeezed past Kyrie in a scintillating 114-86 victory to easily record their second win.

With seven players ending up in double figures, the defending champion has shown insurmountable force, led by Mark Lagrimas who bullied his defenders inside the paint by gathering 20 points, 19 rebounds, five assists and two blocks. Yaki Tarucan put up 19, Abe Fugen delivered 17, John Barrios got 16, Rap Ripalda collected 12, and Ralf Dimaala and Chito Uno had 10 markers apiece.

Papi stayed calm in the payoff period as they outlasted East Side, 65-57, to notch first win behind Keno Vergeire’s 11-point, 11-rebound effort to cap off Sunday triple-header.

JM Custodio finished with a team-high of 16 points, while Nold Abella and Conrad De Guzman tallied 12 and 10 markers respectively.
