Chooks 3×3: Vigan out to rally for success behind Dehesa, playing-owner Singson

Talented young baller from The Dominican Republic received basketball shoes and has some more on the way!

It’s scary to be working alongside your boss — let alone play basketball with them.

But don’t tell that to the Vigan Baluarte Wolves.

Besides having FIBA 3X3 World Cuper Karl Dehesa, the Wolves will be headlined by Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3×3’s only playing owner Luis Christian Singson. And he is just 22 years young.

For the son of former Ilocos governor Chavit Singson, this is his way of carving his own niche.

“First thing’s first, it’s my love for the sport that brought me here. I love playing basketball and with my boys, I want to be able to showcase my skills,” said the proud yet soft-spoken Vigan-native.

“I know that my father has excelled as a businessman and as a politician. I want to make my own path and it is through sports and the game of basketball.”

Vigan’s daily practices have been tough as they constantly train with the Pasig Grindhouse Kings and a selection of former collegiate standouts and ex-pros. And the Wolves are in no way taking things lightly with Singson.

“We always make sure to encourage him and correct his mistakes,” shared Dehesa, who was part of the Manila North team that made it to the 2015 World Tour Final in Abu Dhabi back in 2015.

“Even before we got into this, Christian already told us that we need to treat him like a normal teammate. Minsan nga napapagalitan namin siya but he takes it as constructive criticism — okay lang sa kanya,” added big man Michael Acuna.

Completing the Vigan cast are ex-pro Joshua Webb, Jojo Cunanan, and former CSB Blazer JR Ongteco.

For Webb and Cunanan, they know that the President’s Cup will be an uphill climb. But if their shooting and defense clicks, the Wolves are confident that they can keep up with the league’s best.

“Well, it’s a quicker pace game and more shooting. It’s more of making good reads on defense. That’s why we are continuously going through the process,” thought Webb, who was drafted in the pros back in 2014.

“Siguro, shooting. We don’t care about the stats. All we want to do is win,” closed Cunanan.
