Ahead of the winner-take-all Game 5 encounter against host Davao Occidental, members of the San Juan Knights team already experienced a big challenge — far from what they’ve imagined.
Following a series of earthquakes experienced on different parts of the country, getting a flight to Davao and nearby General Santos City was difficult to come by. The Knights couldn’t book one in time for their Thursday’s match against the Tigers for the MPBL Datu Cup national championship.
Finally, the Knights found a solution.
“We’ve just landed,” wrote team executive Chris Conwi to FOX PH. “We rented (Governor) Chavit’s (Singson) plane to get here.”
The Knights arrived in Davao City late afternoon, but there’s another problem the Knights had encountered as there was no available gym, forcing them to rest and opt out for a morning shoot around Thursday.
“Tomorrow morning na daw. Kasi walang gym,” added Conwi.
The visiting Knights had to come to Davao City for Game 5 after losing their chance of wrapping up the series with a home win Monday night. The more inspired Tigers came roaring back in the last eight minutes to turn back their rivals and force a sudden death match.
