THE Makati Super Crunch was the hottest team in the MPBL Datu Cup, tallying a record 15-game winning streak before faltering in the playoffs where they lost twice in a row against the seventh seed Quezon City Capitals.
This coming season, head coach Cholo Villanueva wants to address that problem as he brought in another ex-pro and someone who has playoff experience.
Juneric Baloria, an explosive guard who played for the Parañaque Patriots and the Pampanga Lanterns just recently, had been added by Villanueva to provide additional firepower and experience to the Super Crunch.
“What we lacked last season is the playoff experience and although we have several players who already played in the PBA, none of them were able to play in the MPBL playoffs,” Villanueva told FOX Sports Philippines.
“With Juneric, we’re bringing in not just one of the most explosive players, but someone who has played in the MPBL playoffs and he will be a big help for our team.”
Baloria was seventh among the scoring leaders in the season just passed. He was the only player who tallied back-to-back 30-plus points last season.
Aside from his explosiveness, Baloria’s familiarity with some of the players will fast track his transition with the Super Crunch.
“He used to play with guys like (Jeckster) Apinan and Rudy Lingganay with NLEX, so it won;t be much of a problem for him fitting into the system,” added Villanueva, who are hoping to add a few more pieces to his playoff puzzle.
