BATANGAS CITY — In the battle between struggling teams, Imus held steadier down the stretch and kept its eyes wide open while Nueva Ecija blinked and lost focus.
Jayjay Helterbrand’s veteran smarts bailed the Bandera out of trouble and helped his squad in snapping an alarming skid following a 75-73 win at the Batangas City Coliseum here.
Jarrel Lim shattered the game’s final deadlock by hitting a jumper in the 1:54 mark. Helterbrand then came through with crucial baskets, hitting three of four free throws down the stretch, as Imus snapped a three-game losing skid and improved its win-loss record to 3-6.
Nueva Ecija absorbed its seventh loss in nine games.
James Martinez led the way for Imus with 12 markers followed by Helterbrand, who had 11 points, eight assists and seven rebounds.
