Inactive MPBL players who were not enlisted in the ongoing Lakan Season can now be acquired by any squad effective immediately until the end of the elimination round.

The MPBL Commissioner’s Office on Monday night released a memo which states that inactive MPBL players who saw action in the Rajah Cup and the Datu Cup, but were not put on the roster of any of the 31 participating teams in the Lakan Season, can now be picked up by any squad.

This was the advice given by Senator Manny Pacquiao, founder and chief executive officer of the MPBL to league commissioner Kenneth Duremdes.

Leading the inactive MPBL players list is Gary David, who played for Bataan in the first two seasons of the league, but was not put on the roster of the Risers team for the third season.

A multiple-time scoring champion in the PBA, David is also the reigning three-point shootout champion in the MPBL.

Other notable players on the list include Jojo Tangkay, Dino Daa, Lucas Tagarda, Ogie Menor, Jorem Morada, Leomar Losentes, Orly Daroya, Andre Paras, Mark Isip, Jojo Duncil, Axel Torres, Roger Yap, Alvin Padilla, George Allen, Paul Santiago, Eric dela Cuesta, Jam Cortes, Rino Berame, Von Lanete, Jonathan Parreno, Julius Pasculado, Chester Tolomia, and Sunday Salvacion, among others.

Teams have until the end of the elimination round to pick up any of these players. They also have to notify the Commissioner’s Office their intention of picking any of the inactive players and put them on their 22-man roster, provided that they will be signed up at least until the end of the elimination round.

“We want to give these players some sort of security of tenure. Hindi yung basta itatapon na lang pagkatapos or susuwelduhan lang ng per game,” added Commissioner Duremdes.

This developed as the MPBL also announced the start of the releasing of players for the free agency pool, which will be done until Saturday. By the end of Tuesday’s scheduled triple-header, the ranking will be released by the league with the bottom squads getting the chance to select first to allow them to tinker their respective line ups in the coming acquisition of free agents.

The day of selection of free agents will be announced by the league soon as the league starts to collect the list of released players for the next five days.
