DAN Sara and Ryusei Koga were two players picked up a days before Batangas City’s much awaited challenge of champions match with reigning titlist San Juan.
The two new players didn’t waste time and proved their worth immediately with the Tanduay-backed Athletics.
Sara knocked in 16 points, including three triples, while Koga added 12 markers as the duo provided stability in the backcourt of the Athletics, who pulled off a come from behind 93-88 victory over the Knights.
Sara, traded for veteran Lester Alvarez, provided the spark needed by the Athletics, who had to overcome an 18-point deficit in the firts half before outlasting the Knights.
Koga, picked up from Muntinlupa in a trade involving Arvin Tolentino, gave some semblance in the point guard spot, especially when Jeff Viernes got injured.
Mac Tan, a member of the coaching staff of Batangas City, said the two new players didn’t have much difficulty fitting themselves with the squad.
“These two new players had been under different coaches and mayroon silang winner’s mentality being a member of the San Beda squad in the NCAA,” Tan told FOX Sports Philippines.
