Jett Vidal has been a household name for the University of Perpetual Help and his amateur squad Big Chill in the PBA D-League.
It’s been a while, though, that the guard had an explosive game.
Like a ticking time bomb waiting to explode, Vidal had a breakout performance for the Basilan Steel, his third squad in the MPBL. He ended up with 12 points and provided quality minutes, helping the Jumbo Plastic-backed in snapping a three-game losing binge in the ongoing Lakan Season.
Vidal hit three triples, signifying that he is now slowly but surely rediscovering his old deadly form, giving the already explosive Basilan team additional firepower needed for the long stretch.
It took sometime before Vidal finally regain his rhythm and conditioning, especially coming off an injury.
“Inaantay ko lang talaga yung time na makundisyon ako kasi galing ako sa injury. Overused lang yung knee ko, bugbog lang, need lang ipahinga,” Vidal told FOX Sports Philippines in an exclusive interview. “Sobrang inaantay ko itong ganitong klaseng laro.”
Over the past three seasons, Vidal would see himself riding the bench while playing in his previous squads. As soon as he got healthy, he finally got the green light to play and on Wednesday night, it was a long time coming for the deadshot shooting guard who finally regained his rhythm as if he’s now in tip-top condition.
Vidal couldn’t be thankful enough for the Phenom-outfitted Steel.
“From the start pa lang, alam ko na na gagamitin ako,” added Vidal. “Kasi mayroon kaming teammates na may mga injuries, so kailangan kong mag-step up. I told myself na kailangan kong I-grab yung opportunity. Kailangan hindi ako mapahiya sa minutong ibibigay sa akin.”
“Ready na talaga ako, kung ano mang playing time bibigay sa akin hindi ko sasayangin yung minuto.”
Head coach Jerson Cabiltes is glad to see Vidal showing his true worth and wants to see more improvement from the player — offensively and defensively.
“My philosophy in this team is for the next guy to be ready. Jett contributed, then sa big man naman quality minutes si (Darwin) Lunar,” added Cabiltes.
“He’s coming off an injury, but nakikita ko kasi sa practice, he’s very determined to come back. Right now, nabigyan talaga siya ng pagkakataon. He’s ready, nakikita ko nakakasabay siya, especially on defense. Points is a bonus, but kung nakakadepensa siya mas maganda.”
