Joseph Nalos hit a dagger three-point shot with one second left to tow the Bataan Risers to a thrilling 78-76 win over the Pampanga Giant Lanterns in the MPBL Lakan Season on Tuesday night at the Marikina Sports Center.
Trailing 76-75, the Risers worked out on the best shot available.
Nalos, who was picked up from Zamboanga from trade that also involves Anton Asistio and Mark Macapagal, delivered the most important basket of the evening.
He created a situation to come up with a good shot, driving the baseline to draw the Pampanga defenders. He decided to pass it out to Joe Presbitero, who found Nalos streaking to the corner and found the cerebral guard wide open for a trey.
It was an important win for the Risers, who now improved their win-loss record to 13-8, the same slate being held by the Giant Lanterns. But by virtue of the win over the other rule, Bataan will take the No. 5 spot in the northern division of this tournament put up by Senator Manny Pacquiao with PBA legend and former MVP Kenneth Duremdes serving as commissioner.
Pasig and General Santos City also completed crucial wins to boost their respective chances going to the playoffs.
The Sta. Lucia-backed Pasig Realtors outlasted the Marikina Shoemasters, 69-63, while the Warriors of Gen San walloped the Bacolod-Master Sardines, 87-68, in the other game.
Josan Nimes had a breakout performance, coming away with a double-double showing for the Realtors, who improved their win-loss record to 13-7 and kept a hold of the No. 4 spot up north.
Nimes finished with 24 points and 11 rebounds while also dishing out five assists in a solid all-around game.
