San Juan Knights confirm Mac Cardona’s departure from team

Mac Cardona will no longer be around to help the San Juan Knights as they try to win the championship once more in the ongoing MPBL Lakan Cup, who is in partnership with Chooks-to-Go.

In a statement released by the Knights’ official Facebook page, they’ve indicated that they will move forward without one of their veteran leaders in Cardona.

“As we start the year 2020, the San Juan Knights – Go For Gold team will now move forward without one of our veteran presence, Macmac Cardona, who resigned from the team due to personal reasons,” said in the statement.

“Macmac has been an integral part of the San Juan Knights – Go For Gold powered by Cherry Mobile and instrumental to our championship as one of the leaders of the team. We wish [him] the best of luck as he pursues another chapter in his journey. He will always be a part of the San Juan Knights history,” they added.

Cardona was indeed an instrumental part of the Knights especially last season in the Datu Cup. The Knights finished third in the North Division standings with a 20-5 record at the time and they went all the way to win their first ever MPBL championship.

He, along with former PBA players  in Larry Rodriguez and John Wilson, would act as the veterans leaders for a squad boasting with their young pieces in Jhonard Clarito, Mike Ayonayon, and Samboy de Leon, who recently joined the TNT KaTropa late last year.

Aptly known as Captain Hook, Cardona is primarily known for his craftiness in the lane and high-scoring capability. He also played for PBA teams like TNT, Meralco, Air21, and Globalport during his pro days.

As of this writing, the defending champions are currently atop of the North Division standings with a 20-3 win-loss card.
