WHILE teams like Manila and Pasig are showing interest in Gary David’s services, there’s a big chance that the veteran forward might stay with in hometown Bataan and continue to play for the squad in the next conference of Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League.
Danny Espiritu, David’s manager, told FOXSports.ph that they’ve already spoken to Borgie Hermida, SCTEX’s team manager.
The group will bankroll the squad starting next conference in June.
“Gusto niyang mag-stay sa Bataan kasi nga iniisip niya rin yung future niya after basketball. Iniisip niya kung paano makakatulong pa rin sa Bataan,” Espiritu said in a telephone interview.
Manila and Pasig, two expansion teams which just joined the MPBL, had made offers to David, but the veteran player is leaning towards staying in Bataan.

Newly-appointed Bataan head coach Jojo Lastimosa, however, clarified that the only way they can sign David is when there’s one spot available for ex-pros. As per MPBL rules, only five ex-pros can be signed up by any team.
“If there’s an ex-pro who won’t sign, then he can probably play for us,” wrote Lastimosa in a text message. “If not, maybe he can help us in some capacity like player development coach for our Team B.”
A scoring champion in the PBA multiple times, David proved that he can still compete against younger, bigger players after leading Bataan in scoring in the inaugural MPBL-Anta Rajah Cup.
