QC Capitals excited for ‘two beasts’ in the coming MPBL season

Denver’s Murray hails Jokic partnership after NBA play-off win

MON Mabayo is the latest prized acquisition of Quezon City Capitals, which means the team will have “two beasts” in the coming season of the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League.

Niño Manalo Dionisio, team manager of the Capitals, told FOX Sports Philippines that they’ve already agreed in principle with Mabayo, an energetic forward who will work alongside Gian Abrigo in providing intensity for the Black Mamba-backed squad.

“We’re excited to unleash the two beasts of QC in the coming MPBL season,” Dionisio wrote in an exclusive online interview.

Mabayo played for the Valenzuela Classic-Yulz in the inaugural MPBL-Anta Rajah Cup last season and was instrumental in the team’s Final Four entry.  After opting out and seeking other offers, the 6-foot-3 forward found a home in the Capitals.

Valenzuela, on the other hand, brought in ex-PBA journeyman Chad Alonzo to take over Mabayo’s spot.

For the Capitals, adding another young player in Mabayo kept the youth and aggressiveness mindset of the Capitals, who is probably the only team so far which has yet to get an ex-pro – although Dionisio added that they’re currently negotiating with one.

Quezon City coach Vis Valencia said they want to see a more aggressive, defensive-minded Capitals in the coming season.

“Our mindset is really to focus on defense,” added Valencia. “Mabayo will be a great addition to the team.”

In close to 16 minutes of playing time, Mabayo averaged 7.2 points and 6.5 rebounds in 12 games last season.

Abrigo, another do-it-all forward, averaged 7.1 points, 9.3 rebounds and 1.7 assists in 12 games playing for the Capitals.
