Valenzuela Classic to bring the grit-and-grind to the MPBL

The return to the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) semifinals will be more difficult for the Valenzuela Classic.

With the league expanding from the ten pioneer teams to 25, team captain Paulo Hubalde and head coach Chris Gavina know that they will have to bleed for every win in the upcoming season.

“Malaki ang adjustment kasi our league is getting competitive. Every team, lalo na ang expansion teams,” Hubalde told FOX Sports Philippines in an exclusive interview. “They are getting strong they are recruiting guys from the PBA, collegiate leagues.”

Gavina, who instilled an underdog-grit-and-grind mentality to the team, has been doubling their preparation for the June 12 tip-off.

“Kasi alam namin na nag revamp lahat na teams, saka yung mga bagong teams ang daming mga talented na players. We’re just out to outwork everybody.”

“Our new guys have really bought in our culture of just being hard workers, trusting the process and joining the grind,” Gavina answered when asked about their new acquisitions – Jericho De Guzman and Chad Alonzo.

What can their fans expect in the upcoming season?

“A lot of grittiness, ball movement. We are aiming at 250 passes a game, hopefully, and 25 assists,” Gavina declared. “We want to be that team that others emulate.”
