JERWIN Gaco will not be joining the Manila Stars, after all.
That’s because the multiple PBA champion and fan favorite had conflicts in schedule with his current team in the PBA D-League and the expansion squad from the MPBL, leaving the Stars no other choice but not to include him in the line up.
Manila team owner Roman Ang confirmed this to FOX Sports Philippines.
“Medyo may conflict lang with schedule kasi kasabay yung D-League then may practice din sya with D-League before our practice,” Ang wrote in an exclusive online interview.
According to Ang, Gaco’s spot will be taken over by Marvin Hayes, another ex-pro who last played for the Phoenix Fuel Masters in the PBA.
Like Gaco, Hayes also plays the power forward spot and will be an asset to head coach Philip Cezar’s defensive-oriented squad.
Cezar, known in the PBA as the “Original Tapal King”, will be calling the shots for the Stars, who also have other ex-PBA stars like Roger Yap and Joseph Yeo, forward Riel Cervantes and guard Marcy Arellano.
“Coach Philip wants our team to focus more on defense,” added Ang.
According to Ang, Hayes will sign the contract today (Saturday) in time for the Monday submission of line up for all MPBL teams.
Also added on the team is veteran coach Rene Baena, who will assist Cezar, a PBA legend and 1980 Most Valuable Player.
