DROPPED by Manila three days before the submission of deadline, Jerwin Gaco has found a home in Imus.
Head coach Jerry Codiñera opened the doors to Gaco, a fan favorite when he was still playing for Purefoods, and reached an agreement over the weekend. The veteran forward informed FOX Sports Philippines that he is set to sign on Monday morning, a few hours before the deadline of submission of the line up.
“Salamat sa tiwala. Masaya ako kasi pinagkatiwalaan ako ni Coach Jerry. Aaayusin ko yung laro ko para tulungan ang Imus. Alam ko sa sarili ko na may maipapakita pa akong laro,” Gaco wrote in an exclusive online interview.
On Saturday, the Manila Stars informed Gaco thru text message that they are releasing him and thanked the multiple PBA champion for attending the team’s practices over the past few weeks.
Manila took in Marvin Hayes, another forward and a PBA journeyman to take over Gaco’s spot.
Immediately after he was released by the Stars, several teams called him up, but Gaco chose Imus where he will be given more exposure.
The Bandera earlier lost young center Jeepy Faundo in a contract dispute with Bataan. The team also tried to pursue PBA legend Marlou Aquino, who decided to join new team Bacoor where he will be reunited with long-time team exec Buddy Encarnado.
