TAKEAWAYS: Caloocan wins for the first time in their homecourt, drops Pasig

Caloocan 1

The Caloocan Supremos finally won in their home court via a 91-81 win over the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball league expansion team Pasig Pirates on Wednesday night at the Caloocan Sports Complex.

Jess Mar Villahermosa was adjudged the Player of the Game with 18 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists. Villahermosa kept the team close before JR Cawaling’s trey in the fourth fueled their comeback.

The tandem of Cedric Labing-isa and Jopher Custodio dropped 13 points apiece, most of which came in the payoff period.

With just five minutes left in the game and the Supremos trailing by a single point, Paul Sanga unleashed a pair of treys—his only makes in the game—to jump start a 13-0 run and retake the lead for good.

Bernzon Franco finished the game for the Pirates with a 15-point, 12-rebound performance. Boyet Bautista chipped in 14 markers and dished out 5 assists.

– Pasig Pirates should have the hashtag #ArribaPiratas as they have the core of the champion Letran Knights in the roster.

– While Cawaling was one out of four from downtown Sanga was two out of six, their timely makes were crucial for the Supremos’ comeback.

– The Pirates were able to use all of their players with Michael Macaballug logging in the least minutes with 3:14. The Supremos, on the other hand, were not able to utilize Jan Colina and Junjun Alas in the game.

– Bigman Mark Sarangay had the biggest +/- in the game with +22. He was the center when Caloocan made the run midway in the fourth quarter.

– Caloocan Mayor Oca Malapitan, who celebrates his birthday Thursday, was present in the game and was visibly happy with the win. He sat beside QC congressman Bingbong Crisologo, whose son Councilor Onyx is a part owner of the Capitals.
