THE Navotas Clutch were silently retooling their line up in the off season, but come game time, they came out ready to perform.
Ex-pro Levy Hernandez and former NU star Kyle Neypes joined forces with Ron Dennison and Rey Publico, the only two remaining mainstays of last season’s squad. Together, these four played with better cohesion in lifting the Clutch to a come from behind 83-75 triumph in the MPBL Datu Cup Saturday night at the San Andres Gym in Manila.
Hernandez came through with a game-high 26 points while Publico finished a rebound away from a double-double, ending up with 22 points and nine boards.
Dennison and Neypes, on the other hand, also played a key role, particularly on the defensive end.
The former Far Eastern University standout completed three steals aside from producing six markers and eight boards.
Neypes, one of the new recruits, contributed seven.
Pasay started the game like a house on fire, leading 11-0 and posting a 25-13 lead in the early part of the second period.
But the Clutch outscored the Voyagers the rest of the way and by the end of second period, Navotas had a total second-quarter production of 21, compared to only 14 made by Pasay, which settled for a 34-32 lead at the turn.
