Duncil’s breakout game carries QC to MPBL win column

IT took some time before Quezon City rediscovered its old deadly form in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL).

Playing in front of their hometown crowd in a new venue, the Black Mamba-backed Capitals finally notched their first win in the MPBL Datu Cup by outlasting the Gen San Warriors, 77-72, at the Blue Eagle Gym in Katipunan.

The Capitals got a big game from ex-PBA player Jojo Duncil, who played his best game since returning to big time basketball scene. He finished with 14 points, including a getaway move in the last 20 seconds of the match that proved to be the deciding basket for Quezon City, which picked up its first win in three matches.

“Iba ang puso ni Jojo Duncil eh. When he plays, he really shows a lot of heart. He’s the Kuya of this team,” Quezon City coach Vis Valencia told FOX Sports Philippines.

Coming off a hamstring injury, Duncil had to suit up against the Warriors and delivered a performance which stated that he’s back in tip-top shape.

“Yung two games namin, talagang yung hamstring masakit. Medyo naka-recover na ngayon,” added Duncil.

But Duncil’s breakout performance since returning to action after being idle for three years may have helped the Capitals in a big way.

In reality, it was the Warriors who self-destructed as they missed a total of 19 free throws. They shot only 12-of-31 free throw attempts (38-percent).

Jay Collado added 11 points while PJ Barua had 10 for the Capitals.
