STREAKING Bataan ran roughshod over Imus, 95-85, to extend its winning ways in the MPBL Datu Cup Saturday night at the Navotas Sports Complex.
The Risers drew an explosive performance from Byron Villarias, who unloaded 25 points, built around a steady 5-of-7 shooting from beyond the arc, to trigger his team’s dominance over the GLC Truck and Equipment-backed Bandera.
Villarias, a former player of the NLEX Road Warriors in the PBA, hit 10-of-13 shots from the field. His torrid shooting from the field was clearly felt right from the get-go when the Zetapro-supported Risers asserted their dominance early, building a 31-15 lead at the end of the first period.
It was the fourth straight win by Bataan, which now improved its win-loss record to 4-1, just half a game behind tournament leader San Juan Knights, the only unbeaten squad.
The loss was the third in four games for the Bandera.
Four other players ended up with double-digit scores for the Risers, with ex-Alab Pilipinas player Rob Celiz tallying 15, former PBA scoring champion Gary David chipping in 13, John Raymundo contributing 11, and Jeepy Faundo adding 10 in a display of balanced firepower by Bataan.
It was a game dominated by the Risers from start to finish.
Villarias and Celiz conspired in a quick 7-0 run and the Risers didn’t look back from there. They even padded their lead to as high as 19, 29-10.
