ANGELES CITY — The Stars and the Lanterns played in the City of Angels, but on Saturday night, Manila’s lights were out, glittered and outshone whatever Pampanga is carrying.
Manila came away with an overpowering performance to wallop Pampanga in front of its hometown crowd and continued its dominating performance in the MPBL Datu Cup.
Their 100-75 triumph over the Lanterns simply summarized everything — Manila had a more superior game than Pampanga.
The Stars shot 52-percent from the field (39-of-75) while holding their rivals to only 33-percent shooting (26-of-78). Manila also played better as a team, dishing out 25 assists compared to only 9 for Pampanga.
Chris Bitoon led the way as he came up an assist shy of posting a double-double performance for the Stars. He finished with 22 points and nine rebounds.
Four other players ended up in double figures for the Stars — Drian Celada with 16, Aris Dionisio with 13, John Lopez with 11 and Riel Cervantes with 10.
It was the fourth win in five games for the Stars, who had defeated
their last three opponents by an average of 20.3 points.
Prior to this game, the Robust Energy Capsule-backed Stars were coming off from a 107-76 whipping of the Cebu Sharks-Casino Ethyl Alcohol, whom they had held scoreless the entire first period.
