Dennison’s heads up play at crunch time lifts Navotas over Rizal in OT

RON Dennison is ready to jump ship to the pros and he proved that with his endgame brilliance to help Navotas to an 87-81 win over a tough Rizal squad in the MPBL Datu Cup at the Ynares Center in Antipolo City.

Doing the inbound in the last five seconds of regulation with his team down by two, 73-71, the former star player of the Far Eastern University had the presence of mind of bouncing off the ball to a defender who had his back on the inb0under.

That allowed Dennison a free lane for an unmolested lay up to send the game to overtime.

In overtime, the rest of the Clutch picked up from where he left off as Kyle Neypes and Gino Jumao-as conspired in a blistering 11-0 run to practically put away the Xentro Mall-backed Crusaders.

It was the fourth win in eight games for the Clutch, who bucked the absence of key players Rey Publico and Levy Hernandez.

The 6-foot-5 Publico, Navotas’ main man at the middle, will be out the rest of the season due to an ACL injury while Hernandez was suspended due to personal reasons.

Head coach Ritchie Ticzon wasn’t surprised at all by Dennison’s heads up play at crunch time.

“He did it already in the UAAP before. That was a very good read by Ron. Maganda yung ginawa niya,” Ticzon told FOX Sports Philippines.

Dennison relished the moment of reliving what he did in the UAAP to help his team win.

“It was against Ateneo — Final Four,” added Dennison. “Diskarte ko na yun, kasi ni-read ko yung sitwasyon kanina. Nagulat sila, pati si Coach.”
