BACOOR — San Juan flirted with disaster before pulling off an 81-74 win over a game Navotas squad in the MPBL Datu Cup at the Strike Gymnasium here Tuesday night.
John Wilson finished with 28 points and 10 rebounds as his double-double effort spearheaded the Knights to their third straight win and moved up into a share of the lead with Bataan in the team standings of the northern division. The Knights, supported by Go-For-Gold, and the Zetapro-backed Risers are now tied on top with an 8-1 record.
The Knights unleashed a telling 11-0 run to start the fourth period and wiped out a 61-50 deficit.
Wilson scored 16 of his total output in the fourth period, including 10 straight points that shoved the Knights to within striking distance, 61-60, 9:16 left in the final frame.
The Clutch were leading by two, 72-70, in the 5:24 mark following a triple made by Ron Dennison, but they were held without a field goal since then and the Knights unloaded 11 more points to fashion out a come from behind victory.
San Juan took advantage of Navotas’ 23 miscues and translated it to 28 points off turnovers. The Knights also outscored their rivals inside the paint, 42-24.
The Clutch, who squandered a 12-point lead in the third period, 58-46, absorbed their fifth loss in nine games.
